Ministry Interview: Extending our Reach for Tomorrow’s Youth

We ask Judy Harvey, youth ministry leader, how our goals in A Legacy of Worship can impact the work we are doing with our area’s youth. Here’s what she has to say…

As a ministry leader why are you interested in the Capital Campaign?

I am interested in the Capital Campaign for several different reasons:

  1. As a church, this capital campaign is a way for us to be united in our vision and purpose, and to show our obedience to God in being excellent stewards with what He has already given us, as well as to be prayerful about His will in what He wants our legacy of worship to be at Fellowship Church.
  2. As a ministry leader, it is exciting to think of the possibilities of ministry within new structures.
  3. As a congregant, it is so exciting to think about worship in a dedicated worship center.
  4. As a church member, it is exciting to think about all the new possibilities of ministry within new and repurposed areas.
  5. As a member of God’s family, it is exciting to think about the potential growth of His Kingdom that our worship and ministries may impact for many years and generations yet to come!
How do you see your ministry being impacted by the Capital Campaign and building project?

I see the Youth Ministry being able to continue to point teens to Christ, but in new and exciting ways within dedicated youth ministry space and in a dedicated worship center. It is my hope that the current youth will catch the vision of this campaign, taking ownership in helping move the campaign forward financially and spiritually, knowing that it is not just for them but for future generations as well in the name of Christ.

Why are you excited in taking part in the Capital Campaign?

We are called to share the Good News of Christ until He returns for us. This is our purpose…to grow in faith to be more like Christ, and share our faith. We can do that anywhere, thank God, and are not limited to the confines of the church buildings.

And yet, having expanded, dedicated space to worship in and use our spiritual gifts to do ministry in, is not for us, but for Christ and the expansion of HIS kingdom! That is why I am excited to participate.

What will this building project allow you do or accomplish that you are unable to now, given the current church building and constraints?

Having dedicated youth space that can be decorated to attract even more youth, that doesn’t have to be taken down as soon as another group needs to use the space will save a lot of wear and tear on furniture and save a lot on man power due to less set-up and tear-down demands. Keeping youth ministry activities out of a dedicated worship center, will save a lot of wear and tear on the worship center too!

Having sufficient and accessible storage space for all the youth stuff will be such a blessing. Having the gym function as a gym again will accommodate better gym use for youth ministry and other ministries as well.

Having a welcome area as teens and parents arrive at and leave TNT, where we have enough room for everyone, will give us the ability to do a better job of connecting and relationship building.

Having a bigger TLC room that accommodates all TLC and staff around tables for meetings and Bible Study will be more productive and comfortable, and it doesn’t have to be a temporary storage space every time the Community Room needs a special set up, which then makes it difficult to get to ministry items in the cabinets of that room.

I pray that teens will take a more vested interested in ‘owning’ the youth space and caring for it, and being even more excited to invite their (unchurched) friends to. I pray it affects youth attendance as well. The more they are there, the more of God’s word they will hear!
