The Advance Commitment Process: An Overview – A Legacy of Worship – Fellowship Church Dallas

The Advance Commitment Process: An Overview

Today we speak with Steve Schweitzer, Advance Commitments Chairperson, about the process and purpose for advance commitments.

Everyone in the church will be asked to do the same thing – to talk to God and to seek His will concerning a financial commitment to A Legacy of Worship. Some will be asked earlier in the process, most will be asked later. The process of asking some to pray and commit earlier is called the Advance Commitment Process. This process is patterned after the steps King David took, as described in I Chronicles 29, to secure funds needed to build the Temple in Jerusalem. Advance commitments give leadership to the project, and better ensure its success.

People who are asked to consider advance commitments are those who possess a high level of commitment to the church and who may have the capacity to give larger than average gifts to the project. Also, some elected leaders of the church may be asked to make advance commitments by virtue of their leadership office.

How does this fit into the theme of A Legacy of Worship?

We have a legacy of giving in time, effort, and resources in this church. During the meeting, the vision, mission, and values of the church will be discussed, as well as the building project and the resources needed to begin the project. The commitment of our resources toward the construction of a dedicated worship center follows with our past history of dedicated service to God.

What are the home visits?

The home visits are designed to meet people where they are most comfortable so that discussion and dialogue may be had. It may be in their home, at a restaurant, or even at the home of the advance commitment team member making the contact.

What can people who are receiving home visits expect?

They can expect a conversation with someone they already know in the church about what the church means in their lives, the vision and mission of the church, the building project plans, and the resources needed to attain each phase. They can also expect a commitment card, which should be completed after praying with their spouse and family. The information on the card will be confidential and will be recorded by the financial secretary, in the same manner that regular offerings are handled. The card may be sent to the office or placed with the offering on a Sunday morning.

When will the visits be taking place?

Most visits will take place between February 12 and March 12.

If anyone would like to receive a home visit please send an email to [email protected].
